Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

The Harvard Dermatology community is committed to promoting equitable dermatologic care for our patients and ensuring that all members of our community are treated with fairness and respect.  We will continue to evolve as a community until equity is achieved and diversity is embraced and celebrated across the multiple intersections of identity including but not limited to race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity and many others.  We believe that every single person in our community should be held accountable to these standards in order to create a safe and inclusive environment.

We are proud to uphold the official Diversity Statement of Harvard Medical School.  Harvard Medical School is committed to convening and nurturing a diverse community of individuals dedicated to promoting excellence and leadership in medicine and science through education, research, clinical care and service. Our unique perspectives, talents, experiences and contributions as HMS students, trainees, faculty, staff and administrators are the foundation and drivers of our excellence.

In this series of videos, trainees and program leaders describe their experiences with diversity, Harvard-affiliated training programs, and life in Boston.

The Harvard Dermatology Diversity Committee is composed of residents and faculty across all six affiliated hospitals.  Mayra Lorenzo, MD PhD, serves as the Chair of our Diversity Committee, and Sotonye Imadojemu, MD MBE, serves as our Faculty Director of Diversity.  This committee oversees diversity and inclusion related aspects of our curriculum, selection and recruitment of URiM applicants, and the wellbeing of our URiM residents.

Mayra Lorenzo, MD PhD, Chair of Harvard Derm Diversity Committee receives 2019 Harold Amos Faculty Diversity Award recognizing an HMS or HSDM faculty member who has made exceptional efforts in the areas of equity, diversity and inclusion.
