Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) Dermatology Access Clinic
The Student-Run Dermatology Access Clinic located in the BIDMC Dermatology Department offers after-hours dermatology care to underserved and underinsured adult patients in the Boston area. The clinic aims to address barriers to care through extended 30 minute visits, evening timings, interpreter services, social work pathways, and focus on MassHealth patients. The clinic is operated by a team of BIDMC faculty and administration, Harvard Dermatology residents, and Harvard Medical School (HMS) students. Harvard Dermatology residents lead teams of two medical students and guide the medical student leadership team. Medical students are involved in leadership and in clinic as junior and senior clinicians.
AAD SPOTT Skin Cancer Screening
A number of skin cancer screening clinics are coordinated throughout the year, geared toward providing this service to underserved and diverse populations. Residents have the opportunity to participate in skin cancer screenings as well as patient education and counseling regarding sun protection.
MGH Youth Scholars
The MGH Youth Scholars Program supports educational endeavors of students in grades 9-12 who live in underserved communities in Boston, Chelsea and Revere. The program works to increase students’ interest in science and healthcare and to spark college aspirations and preparedness. Residents have the opportunity to plan and organize an educational program that teaches students about both common dermatologic conditions and a career in medicine.
Shiprock Service Unit, Shiprock, NM
The Shiprock Service Unit is the largest Service Unit within the Navajo Nation, caring for approximately 45,500 mostly Navajo patients. This hospital serves as a referral center for many of the smaller health centers within even more remote areas of the Navajo reservation. Residents have the opportunity to deliver high quality dermatologic care, typically during a 1-2 week clinical experience during elective time.
Vietnam Vascular Anomalies Center, Vietnam
The mission of the Vietnam Vascular Anomalies Center (VAC) is to care for underserved children and to promote collaboration in education and research between Vietnamese and US healthcare providers in the diagnosis and treatment of vascular anomalies, pigmented birthmarks, scars and wounds. Residents have the opportunity to participate in high quality dermatologic care at the Center, typically during elective time.
