Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) Dermatology Access Clinic
The Student-Run Dermatology Access Clinic at BIDMC provides after-hours dermatology care for patients experiencing barriers to specialty care access. The clinic aims to address challenges through extended 30-minute visits, evening hours, interpreter services, and social work pathways. The clinic serves patients with public insurance and those facing healthcare coverage limitations.
The clinic is staffed by BIDMC faculty and administration, Harvard Dermatology residents, and Harvard Medical School (HMS) students. Harvard Dermatology residents lead teams of two medical students and guide the medical student leadership team. Medical students are involved in both clinical care and leadership roles.
AAD SPOTT Skin Cancer Screening
A number of free skin cancer screening clinics are held throughout the year to expand access to early detection and sun protection education. These screenings are available to patients who may not have regular access to dermatologic care.
Residents have the opportunity to participate in skin cancer screenings, patient education, and counseling on sun protection.
MGH Youth Scholars
The MGH Youth Scholars Program supports high school students interested in science and healthcare careers. The program works to increase students’ exposure to healthcare fields and prepare them for college and future careers in medicine.
Residents have the opportunity to plan and organize an educational program focused on dermatologic conditions and pathways into medicine.
Shiprock Service Unit, Shiprock, NM
The Shiprock Service Unit provides medical care to patients in a geographically remote area within the Navajo Nation, serving a population of approximately 45,500. This hospital acts as a referral center for many smaller health centers in rural regions with limited access to specialty care.
Residents have the opportunity to deliver high-quality dermatologic care during a 1-2 week elective rotation, focusing on the challenges of healthcare delivery in remote settings.
Vietnam Vascular Anomalies Center, Vietnam
The Vietnam Vascular Anomalies Center (VAC) focuses on treating children with vascular anomalies, pigmented birthmarks, scars, and wounds. The Center promotes collaboration in education and research between Vietnamese and US healthcare providers.
Residents have the opportunity to participate in specialty dermatologic care and international medical collaboration during elective time.
